EPA Recommendations

Air Duct EPA Recommendations

Duct-CleaningsmIf not properly installed, maintained, and operated, HVAC components may, over time, become contaminated with particles of dust, pollen or other debris. If moisture is present, the potential for microbial growth (e.g., mold) is increased and spores from such growth may be released into the home’s living space. These contaminants may cause allergic reactions or other symptoms in people if they are exposed to them.

Make sure your air duct cleaning services team (duct cleaning professional and HVAC contractor) will be cleaning all system components and that they are qualified to do so (HVAC contractors require special licensing to work on the mechanical components of your system). Failure to clean a component of a contaminated system can result in re-contamination of the entire system, thus negating any potential benefits.

140px-Environmental_Protection_Agency_logo.svgIn addition to cleaning, your air duct cleaning services provider (duct cleaning professional) can apply chemical biocides designed to kill microbiological contaminants to the inside of the duct work and to other system components.

The EPA neither establishes duct cleaning standards nor certifies, endorses, or approves air duct cleaning companies.

Our Process

Our Orlando FL Air Duct Cleaning Process

We systematically clean from each vent all the way to the next vent so that we get 100% coverage from vent-to-vent. We use well-controlled brushing of duct surfaces in conjunction with vacuum cleaning to dislodge and trap dust and other particles via HEPA filters.

To protect the ductwork, we use only soft-bristled brushes for fiberglass duct board, sheet metal ducts internally lined with fiberglass, and flex duct.

We use heavy-duty commercial truck-mounted equipment and we are equipped to handle every type of soiling condition known to our industry!

We use the proven cleaning methods most recommended in the industry.
The recommended method for Dryer Vents and HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) ductwork cleaning is “Source Removal”, the mechanical cleaning of system components to remove obstructions, debris, dirt and dust.

Mechanical Cleaning involves two key steps:

  • Rotary brushing to loosen the debris inside ductwork and HVAC air handling components.
  • Vacuuming using a high-velocity HEPA filtration system to safely remove debris from the HVAC system. The goal is to reduce contaminants to acceptable levels (industry standard) without re-introducing these contaminants into household air.

Currently the safest and most effective, our air duct cleaning service utilizes a portable HEPA filtered vacuum coupled with a rotary brush (agitation device). This technology utilizes a high-velocity vacuum behind the brush to create “lift” for debris removal with HEPA filtration to prevent potential of cross contamination.

airductcleaningWe use a 8-step Air Duct Cleaning Process to thoroughly clean your air ducts:

    1. Pre-inspection. We inspect the system before cleaning to be sure that there are no asbestos-containing materials (e.g., insulation, register boots, etc.).
    2. Site Protection. We protect your carpet and household furnishings during the cleaning process and we clean-up after our work is completed.
    3. Rotary Brush Cleaning. We remove each and every register (air vent cover) one at a time and then insert our special rotating brushes (engineered safe for all your duct work no matter how old or new) that mechanically clean your duct work.
    4. Integrated Vacuum Cleaning. Our machine’s high-powered vacuum system (located directly behind rotating brushes) instantly traps all of the contaminants dislodged from the interior surfaces of your duct-work in a HEPA Filter (EPA recommended).
    5. Register Replacement. After the ductwork is clean, we wipe clean and carefully re-install the registers (air vent covers).
    6. Intake System. We clean the air returns, the fresh air intake, and other exterior surfaces of the HVAC equipment (we do not open or clean inside mechanical equipment).
    7. Disinfection. We “fog” the entire system with an “EPA” registered, hospital level disinfectant to kill microbial activity including mold, mildew, bacteria, and viruses. This reaches 100% of the air handling system.
    8. Post-cleaning Checklist. We will review our work with you upon completion of the cleaning process including the proper replacement of access points.

According to National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA), the most recognized body for the HVAC Inspection, Maintenance, and Restoration Industry, cleaning your HVAC system’s ductwork improves indoor air quality and results in energy savings.

  1. Indoor Air Quality. Indoor air quality is one concern that homeowners have when they decide to investigate air duct cleaning. In a typical six-room home, up to 40 pounds of dust is created annually through everyday living. Your heating and cooling system is the lungs of your home. The system takes air in and breathes air out. Through normal occupation in a home, we generate a great deal of contaminants and air pollutants, such as dander, dust, and chemicals. These contaminants are pulled into the HVAC system and re-circulated 5 to 7 times per day, on average. Over time, this re-circulation causes a build-up of contaminants in the duct work. Dirty air conditioning ducts may contribute to larger health issues or harbor contaminants that could cause serious problems for people with respiratory health conditions, autoimmune disorders or some environmental allergies.
  2. Energy Savings. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, 25 to 40 percent of the energy used for heating or cooling a home is wasted. Contaminants in the heating and cooling system cause it to work harder and shorten the life of your system. When a HVAC system is clean, it doesn’t have to work as hard to maintain the temperature you desire. As a result, less energy is used, leading to improved cost-effectiveness.

Fact: Did you know that keeping your HVAC System clean also helps keep your carpet cleaner? You can help prevent “Filtration Soiling” ( ugly black lines around the base-boards and under doorways) by keeping your HVAC system properly maintained.
